A pool finish is the final layer applied over your pool’s concrete shell, and it plays a major role in both appearance and performance. Available in a wide range of colors, textures, and materials, the right finish can transform your pool into anything from a tropical retreat to a sleek, modern escape.

What Comes Before the Finish

Before the finish is applied, several critical steps take place:

  • Steel, Plumbing & Electrical: After excavation, steel rebar forms the structural framework of the pool. Plumbing and electrical systems are then installed.
  • Pool Shell: The shell is created using either shotcrete (premixed concrete) or gunite (dry mix combined with water during application). Once cured, tile and coping are installed, preparing the pool for its final finish.

The Role of a Pool Finish

A pool finish does more than enhance appearance—it also impacts durability and water color.

  • Aesthetics & Feel: The finish defines the texture and overall look of your pool.
  • Durability: High-quality materials, such as quartz, pebble, or marble blends, strengthen the surface and extend the life of your pool.
  • Water Color: The finish color influences how the water appears. Lighter tones create bright blue water, while darker or earth tones produce deeper blue or green hues.

At Pound Pool Plastering, we source and blend our own premium materials to ensure a long-lasting, flawless finish.

Types of Pool Finishes

Each type of finish offers unique benefits:

  • Plaster: A traditional and cost-effective option made from cement and marble dust or sand. While affordable, it has a shorter lifespan.
  • Quartz: Enhanced plaster mixed with quartz for added durability and color retention.
  • Pebble: A textured finish using natural pebbles, offering excellent durability and slip resistance.
  • Polished: A high-end option made from crushed marble, delivering a smooth, luxurious, and visually striking surface.
